Pushing ahead, troops drove byà Major General William J. Worth attacked the Molino del Rey and the close by Casa de Mata. In the subsequent battling, the two positions were caught, yet American misfortunes demonstrated high. A to some degree Pyrrhic triumph for Scott, no proof was discovered that gun were being fabricated in the office. Foundation In spite of the fact that Major General Zachary Taylor had won a progression of triumphs at Palo Alto, Resaca de la Palma, and Monterrey, President James K. Polk chose for move the focal point of American endeavors from northern Mexico to a battle against Mexico City. In spite of the fact that this was to a great extent because of Polks worries about Taylors political desire, it was likewise bolstered by reports that a development against the foe capital from the north would be extraordinarily troublesome. Subsequently, another military was made under Major General Winfield Scott and requested to catch the key port city of Veracruz. Arriving on March 9, 1847, Scotts men moved against the city and caught it following a twenty-day attack. Building a significant base at Veracruz, Scott started making arrangements to progress inland before yellow fever season showed up. Moving inland, Scott steered the Mexicans, drove by General Antonio Lã ³pez de Santa Anna, at Cerro Gordo the next month. Driving towards Mexico City, he won fights at Contreras and Churubusco in August 1847. Approaching the doors of the city, Scott went into a détente with Santa Anna with expectations of consummation the war. The ensuing dealings demonstrated worthless and the détente was damaged by various infringement with respect to the Mexicans. Completion the ceasefire toward the beginning of September, Scott started getting ready for attacking Mexico City. As this work pushed ahead, he got word on September 7 that a huge Mexican power had involved the Molino del Rey. The Kings Mill Found southwest of Mexico City, the Molino del Rey (Kings Mill) comprised of an arrangement stone structures that once had housed flour and black powder plants. Toward the upper east, through certain woods, the château of Chapultepec overshadowed the region while toward the west stood the strengthened situation of Casa de Mata. Scotts knowledge reports likewise recommended that the Molino was being utilized to cast gun from chapel chimes sent down from the city. As the main part of his military would not be prepared to ambush Mexico City for a few days, Scott resolved to lead a minor activity against the Molino meanwhile. For the activity, he chose Major General William J. Worths division which was situated at close by Tacubaya. Plans Mindful of Scotts expectations, Santa Anna requested five detachments, bolstered by big guns, to shield the Molino and Casa de Mata. These were managed by Brigadier Generals Antonio Leon and Francisco Perez. Toward the west, he positioned around 4,000 rangers under General Juan Alvarez with the expectation of striking the American flank. Framing his men before first light on September 8, Worth expected to initiate his assault with a 500-man raging gathering drove by Major George Wright. In the focal point of his line, Worth put Colonel James Duncans battery with requests to decrease the Molino and dispense with the foe big guns. To one side, Brigadier General John Garlands detachment, bolstered by Hugers Battery, had requests to square potential fortifications from Chapultepec before striking the Molino from the east. Brigadier General Newman Clarkes unit (briefly drove by Lieutenant Colonel James S. McIntosh) was coordinated to move west and ambush the Casa de Mata. Armed forces Commanders US Significant General Winfield ScottMajor General William J. Worth3,500 men Mexico Brigadier General Antonio LeonBrigadier General Francisco Perezapprox. 14,000 men in the region The Attack Begins As the infantry pushed ahead, a power of 270 dragoons, drove by Major Edwin V. Sumner, screened the American left flank. To help in activity, Scott allocated Brigadier General George Cadwalladers unit to Worth as a save. At 3:00 AM, Worths division started progressing guided by scouts James Mason and James Duncan. In spite of the fact that the Mexican position was solid, it was subverted by the way that Santa Anna had not set anybody in generally speaking order of its barrier. As American mounted guns beat the Molino, Wrights party charged forward. Assaulting under overwhelming fire, they prevailing with regards to invading the adversary lines outside the Molino. Turning the Mexican ordnance on the safeguards, they before long went under substantial counterattacks as the foe understood that the American power was little (Map). A Bloody Victory In the subsequent battling, the raging party lost eleven of fourteen officials, including Wright. With this push wavering, Garlands unit cleared in from the east. In severe battling they figured out how to drive off the Mexicans and secure the Molino. Safe house taken this goal, Worth arranged his cannons to move their fire to the Casa de Mata and guided McIntosh to assault. Propelling, McIntosh immediately found that the Casa was a stone fortification and not an earthen stronghold as initially accepted. Encompassing the Mexican position, the Americans assaulted and were spurned. Quickly pulling back, the Americans saw Mexican soldiers foray from the Casa and slaughter close by injured warriors. With the fight at the Casa de Mata advancing, Worth was made aware of Alvarezs nearness to over a gorge toward the west. Shoot from Duncans firearms kept the Mexican mounted force under control and Sumners little power crossed the gorge to give further assurance. In spite of the fact that ordnance fire was gradually decreasing the Casa de Mata, Worth guided McIntosh to assault once more. In the subsequent ambush, McIntosh was slaughtered similar to his substitution. A third detachment leader was seriously injured. Again falling back, the Americans permitted Duncans weapons to accomplish their work and the battalion surrendered the post a brief timeframe later. With the Mexican retreat, the fight finished. Result In spite of the fact that it endured just two hours, the Battle of Molino del Rey demonstrated one of the bloodiest of the contention. American setbacks numbered 116 executed and 671 injured, including a few senior officials. Mexican misfortunes totaled 269 slaughtered just as around 500 injured and 852 caught. In the wake of the fight, no proof was discovered that the Molino del Rey was being utilized as a gun foundry. In spite of the fact that Scott at last increased little from the Battle of Molino del Rey, it served as another hit to the effectively low Mexican spirit. Shaping his military over the coming days, Scott assaulted Mexico City on September 13. Winning the Battle of Chapultepec, he caught the city and adequately won the war.

Exemplification Essay Euthanasia Should Be Legalized
Jack has just been in a serious car accident. He is suffering from brain damage and paralysis. His family does not want him to live the rest of his life this way, but do they have a choice in ending the pain and suffering of their loved one? According to most state governments and countries, the answer is no; however, there is method allowed in some states to stop the pain and suffering for both the patient and his family. This method is called euthanasia. Euthanasia is the deliberate, painless killing of persons who suffer from a physically or emotionally painful or incurable disease or condition. Euthanasia is illegal in most countries and few doctors practice it, but it is a decision that seriously ill or injured people and theirâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Living wills allow a person to say that they do not want to be kept alive through extraordinary medical measures (Moreover). This is where euthanasia comes into play. In the article ââ¬Å"Killing With Kindnessâ⬠, Caroline Daniel states that two academics from Glasgow Universityââ¬â¢s Institute of Law and Ethics in medicine believe that keeping a person alive who wants to die is not only an infringement of their rights, but arguably an irresponsible use of resources (Daniel). They are saying that the terminally ill cannot be denied the right of euthanasia. A person should have the right to decide his/her own fate, and if the patient and their family both state that they want euthanasia to be performed, then they cannot be denied that right. There is also some concern that denying someone the right of euthanasia is putting a strain on available resources. Many countries are unable to build decent hospitals, and it is even harder for some countries to attract quality medical personnel. This lack of resources makes the choice of

It is interesting to explore the work of art of Ernest Hemingwayââ¬â¢s A Farewell to Arms. In the story, it gives the readers a sense of responsibility hand in hand with intense love for someone that the protagonist has to his beloved. The blend of oneââ¬â¢s conviction and love are the focal elements in the authorââ¬â¢s masterpiece. We will write a custom essay sample on Lifeââ¬â¢s Dispute or any similar topic only for you Order Now As the author shed light to the intriguing scenario of the story, at some point, the readers would have passionate longing and at the same time a huge responsibility to his craft. It is indeed in this story that the author uses the realities of life which truly give emphasis to the norm of the story. Furthermore, A Farewell to Arms involves a great representation of oneââ¬â¢s ideals in life. On how the central character portrays his conviction all through out the story is the essential part of this paper. The elaboration of ideals as well as realities of life will be presented in this dissertation. In lieu of the story, Frederick Henry is the leading character. Heââ¬â¢s a volunteer ambulance driver which has a huge responsibility in the realm that he is into but at the same time, at the back of his mind, he is thinking about the indifferent world. Accordingly, he does his work efficiently but along the way, he makes a gesture that he misses the point wherein the essentiality his work does not serve his persona anymore. In addition to the protagonist ideals in life, it was characterized in the story how he passionately fall in love with Catherine with whom he focuses his attention. The deep rooted feelings that he established towards Catherine truly leave a mark to his character and on the later part of the story, it was clearly shown how he stand with his love despite the challenges that comes their way. Catherine Barkley was said to be the one behind the character of Frederick Henry. She was once loose her fiancà ©. She met Frederick Henry in the hospital. They both got attracted with each other which lead them to have a relationship. Their affair was intensely depicted in the story which enlightens the very essence of A Farewell to Arms. Catherineââ¬â¢s character without a doubt had a huge impact to Frederick Henryââ¬â¢s character. She simply defines the perseverance of the central character by using their love as central element, ââ¬Å"I want what you want. There is no any me any more just what you wantâ⬠(Hemingway, p.106). The characteristic of Frederick Henry is not the serious type when it comes to relationship, ââ¬Å"I did not love Catherine Barkley nor had any idea of loving her. This was a game, like bridge, in which you said things instead of playing cards. Like bridge you had to pretend you were playing for money or playing for some stakes. Nobody had mentioned what the stakes wereâ⬠(Hemingway, p. 31). As Frederick Henry had an attachment to Catherine, his feelings transforms in a much deeper character of a man with conviction to his girl. On the later part of the story when Catherine had difficulty in her pregnancy and to the extent that she looses her life with their baby, it expounds the strength in the leading roleââ¬â¢s character as he stand firm and with open arms accept the challenges of life. Truly, the world is indifferent in the eyes of Frederick Henry but because of Catherineââ¬â¢s contributions to his life, he became strong with a grip to love the life that he has. Rinaldi, a physician and a friend to Frederick Henry was one of the contributing characters in the story. Through this man, it draws a picture of concentrated aim for the best. He focuses his attention to two things ââ¬â war and country. This man talks about medal of bravery and development in ones craft. Indeed, it gives the leading character to have a perception as regards to work as well as to excel in his field. Passini, another effective character in A Farewell to Arms delineates the intention of the story. Considering his character, his views in life was to quit with what he is doing. He wanted to end the war just like that because he does not appreciate anymore the imperative task he is portraying, ââ¬Å"One side must stop fighting. Why donââ¬â¢t we stop fightingâ⬠(Hemingway, p.51). Unfortunately, he died in the event of the story, and this circumstance serves an eye opener to the protagonist that when you relinquish the struggle, you almost surrender yourself. The Application of Seven Communication Traditions
Table of Contents The Phenomenological Tradition The Cybernetic tradition The Sociopsychological Tradition The Sociocultural Tradition The Critical Tradition The Rhetorical Tradition References The Phenomenological Tradition It is a theory that deals with personal experience. People have a way of interpreting the things around them and coming up with a formidable experience (Griffin 2009).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Application of Seven Communication Traditions specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The attributes can develop even from the time a person is young (Adler Rodman 2003). After examining things and testing them, then one can make a personal judgment. ââ¬ËAn example of personal experience is about loveââ¬â¢ (Littlejohn Foss 2011, p.75). One can understand love by personally experiencing it. One can also gain this experience from the level of contact with something or people determine the meaning it represents to someone (Adler Rodman 2003). Language also becomes the most important vehicle for learning. It has a way of developing meanings to certain things. People experience the world because of the way language expresses it to be. ââ¬ËThere are things that people know because of the associated labelsââ¬â¢ (Griffin 2009, p.210). For instance, when one buys goods that may be in a box, there are labels that indicate which side should face up (Adler Rodman 2003). For other goods, there are even labels that help the user to know which part to open. ââ¬ËThe way a person interprets a message is central to the already available perception or phenomenological thoughtââ¬â¢ (Littlejohn Foss 2011, p.73). The thoughts to interpret some message become active whenever similar messages are available. It is then the process of going back to the previous personal experience and using it to interpret the present information (Craig Muller 2007). The Classical Phenomenol ogy expresses truth through direct experience. For some information or something to be entirely true, then one has to put away any biases (Craig Muller 2007). The phenomenology of perception clarifies that people know things only because of their personal relationships to those things. In as much as the world affects people, so do people affect the world through their personal knowledge (Macnamara 2013). Hermeneutic phenomenology adds communication to this definition. It is the words and languages that cause things to have a different meaning in life (Griffin 2009). The Quitline Services Campaign is a progressive way that the government is using to reduce and or stop people from smoking (Miller 2005). The smokers can have time to talk to the campaign officials about their feelings. They can also have time to listen to what others have gone through and decide if they want to remain the same or change their behaviors.Advertising Looking for essay on communications media? They can also have a forum through which the people can be writing their personal experience through social networks and the website. The Cybernetic tradition A family is not just a collection of individuals related by blood (Macnamara 2013). A family has an organized system of relating with each other. There are ways in which they interact with one another and influence each other towards making certain decisions (Craig Muller 2007). They have a way in which they communicate with family members to pass a specific message in a specific way. There are also changes that happen within and to the family after some time. They make things to change and people to behave in a certain way. Cybernetics is, therefore, the tradition of com plex systems whereby the complex elements influence one another (Griffin 2009). There is the involvement of physical and biological processes. Some behavioral and social attributes also contribute to cybernetics (Struever 2009). A system results from the contribution of very many others parts that form together something that is more than the collection of the initial parts. In a system, there is the aspect of interdependence that binds the parts together (Craig Muller 2007). One part must rely on the service of the other to make a reasonable impact. Systems also have the attribute of self-regulation and control. The reason for doing so is to maintain stability and to succeed in attains the desired goals. ââ¬ËThe system can be complex and highly adaptableââ¬â¢ (Craig Muller 2007, p.280). When passing information, the government needs to ensure that the piece of information is highly influential so that it can erode the previous perspective no matter how strong it is (Griffin 2009). The government must not ignore the social and culture factors because they form a system that needs direct attention (Adler Rodman 2003). It may not be the best method to address individual smokers, but it can be a way to form new habits in the smokers. The government can develop a new culture in the reforming and reformed smokers.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Application of Seven Communication Traditions specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The Sociopsychological Tradition Every individual has different parts of the body that come together to make whole human beings. The interactions between these individual parts are what makes one a whole person. The same applies to the human being (Craig Muller 2007). One cannot become a solitary being without being part of a certain family, community, and or a country. The social interaction between these people is what binds them together. Persons are entities with characteristics that lead them to behave in independent ways. Most of the sociopsychological theories are cognitive. They offer guidance on how people process information (Adler Rodman 2003). The human mind is so powerful that it has the capability of grasping, accommodating, and changing information to make the individual to adapt to certain kind of behavior (Struever 2009). Communication scientists are still in a dilemma as to how the human mind functions. They are still doing research to come up with clear explanation. The tradition has three branches that include the behavioral, the cognitive, and the biological (Craig Muller 2007). The behavioral theories concentrate on how people behave in communication situations. There is a relationship between what one says and what one does. It guarantees repetition of behavior if there is a reward that motivates them and helps the to continue the way one behaves. The cognitive theory focuses on the patterns of thought. It is how p eople, acquire, store, and process information that leads to a certain behavior. The mental operations also control what one does (Griffin 2009). The biological scientists have come to believe that most of what people do result from the biological traits. They may not come from learning or any situational factors (Adler Rodman 2003). Dissonance can help the smoker to stop smoking. The government can find some explanations on how to make these people remodel their thoughts towards smoking (Littlejohn Foss 2011). The government can find some psychologists to work with the team so that they can understand the individual smokers before engaging them in the desired change (Adler Rodman 2003). The Sociocultural Tradition It is a tradition that puts more emphasize on the identity of a person (Adler Rodman 2003). Every individual belongs to a certain group of people.Advertising Looking for essay on communications media? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More One may be a student, a Christian, a Muslim, and a Hispanic (Craig Muller 2007). The sociocultural approaches theory appeal to the understanding of the people, their norms, and rules. They engage the people as belonging to a given culture. Community or Society comes from some connections that include communication. It is the social interactions that enable people to make meanings of things (Miller 2005). Smokers would always find a way to communicate. When they share cigarettes, they begin relationships that go a long way. Sometimes when they meet they start discussing events and matters that concern their colleagues (Carey 2009). The government can use such interactions to build new relationships and pass a strong message. Because they keep meeting other smokers during their daily routines, the message can spread far and wide (Pernot 2009). Another way is to put them into groups (Carey 2009). One group can comprise of the smokers who are unable to stop smoking because of their per sonal choice. The second one can include those who volunteer to quit smoking (Griffin 2009). Another group can be for those who have quitted and many more (Struever 2009). It would depend on how they categorize them. Those who have quit can be useful in government adverts giving others ideas on how to quit and live a healthy life (Craig Muller 2007). The Critical Tradition Critical communication theory supports the tradition by coming up with the message that gives direction on how to control tobacco (Carey 2009). It also provides messages that would reach out to the smokers to make them stop doing so. The Critical political economy theory gives the governing bodies like the governments the upper hand in stopping the habit (Littlejohn Foss 2011). In short, the government is the one with all the power and, therefore, it can control it the way it seems well. However, it must use its moral obligation in a way that it promotes good health and peace (Adler Rodman 2003). The government can use its power in a positive way to help, support, and manage the menace. It has the available media channel to do its work (Pernot 2009). Through the media, they can construct and spread new and important ideas to the people (Carey 2009). They can use symbols and pictures to force the smokers to let go of their habit. The smokers may think that they are making their personal choice (Griffin 2009). However, most of the tobacco companies have resources to counter what the government does so that they can stay relevant (Craig Muller 2007). They may challenge the governmentââ¬â¢s decision through their messages and advertisements through the same media. It is upon the government and its agencies to put forward a forceful message (Carey 2009). The Rhetorical Tradition The theory dates back to very many years I the Greek history. It has to do with using words without putting emphasize on the action that somebody should take (Littlejohn Foss 2011). Sometimes it can relate to what politicians do when they are looking for votes. It can relate to public speaking, teaching, and even preaching (Littlejohn Foss 2011). It originally was important for persuasion (Craig Muller 2007). It was an art that involved putting arguments into constructive sense and making the speech. Later it became the process of adjusting ideas to people and people to ideas. It is the human symbol. Due to adjustments, it has now evolved to include the use of symbols to affect others (Carey 2009). It focuses more on the speaker and the way the speaker says things rather what they say (Pernot 2009). The health sector may use benevolent rhetoric to help people improve their health. People, therefore, believe that the intention of the user is good (Adler Rodman 2003). There is also conversion rhetoric that can become useful to change the attitude of the people towards something (Adler Rodman 2003). It is the way the preacher or the motivational speaker can engage people to help them choose a superior position over what they have been doing (Craig Muller 2007). It could be the best method that the government can use (Struever 2009). But faced with the anticipated reaction from the smokers, it could only make matters worse (Carey 2009). There are people who would still listen and think that the information is helpful to them. Sometimes a good speech by an influential person like an opinion leader can make a difference. It is upon the government and the government agencies to formulate the policies that would guide the way forward. Some family members can be very helpful. Dial One, Followed by the Octothorpe
Dial One, Followed by the Octothorpe Dial One, Followed by the Octothorpe Dial One, Followed by the Octothorpe By Maeve Maddox Everyone knows the cross-hatched symbol #. For some its the pound sign because it has been used by greengrocers as a symbol for pound on the little signs pricing fruit and vegetables: .75# (seventy-five cents a pound). For some its the tic-tac-toe sign because of the game that uses it as the playing area. Automated telephone systems instruct us to dial certain numbers, followed by the pound sign, a direction that confused me at first because I think of this symbol as the number sign. As if there werent already enough names for it, engineers at Bell have come up with an official moniker for it: the octothorpe. The octo part comes from the fact that the symbol has eight points. No one seems to be able to say with any certainty where the thorpe comes from. European phone companies, like British Telecom, call the symbol a square, a term apparently too simple for the North American telephone industry. On the other hand, rather than use the obvious word asterisk for that symbol on the dial, the telephone powers prefer to call it a star. Go figure. Critical thinking Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 8
Critical thinking - Essay Example This is the best motivational technique that a parent can use, because it is natural for children to behave in a certain way when their behavior is appreciated with a reward. The term coined by B.F. Skinner, negative reinforcement is a kind of motivational technique that aims at repetition of a certain behavior, by the removal of aversive stimuli. An aversive stimulus is some sort of physical or mental discomfort. A response or behavior is strengthened when an individual knows that he will escape a negative outcome. My mother has always told me to clean up the mess in my room before I leave for school. She has, at times, yelled at me when I left my room untidy. So, I knew that I have to clean up my room in order to escape the anger of my mother. In this example, my momââ¬â¢s anger was the negative reinforce or the negative outcome, which I avoided by correcting my behavior. Consider a student whose mobile phone rings up when he is attending his favorite math class. His teacher reprimands him in front of his classmates, and gives a lecture on bad effects of using mobile phones during lectures. Since the student feels ashamed in front of his peers, he powers off his phone, and makes up his mind to always switch it off during lectures. This way, his negative behavior is weakened by positive punishment. Negative punishment involves taking away of some expected and desired outcome after a negative behavior is shown. Negative punishment is also intended for weakening the negative behavior, so that it does not happen again in future. I remember myself fighting with my little brother over a video game. He wanted to play it first, while I was saying that since it was my idea, so I should play it first. We started yelling at each other, while each of us snatching the DVD from the other. My mom came in, and with an angry look, took the DVD away with her in the kitchen, and hid it somewhere. This is an example of taking away a desired object with the

First of all I would like to congratulate my fellow classmates Hello my name is Sarah and I am very proud to say I am valedictorian of this program. When I first started classes at this college I was afraid I wasnââ¬â¢t even going to pass let alone be standing here today. It had been a long time since I sat in a class room. I thought I was too old to go back to school. But I was wrong. Coming to this school has been one of the most fulfilling decisions I have made in my life. When I am at home watching tv and a commercial for this college comes on my 4 year old will start yelling that my mommaââ¬â¢s college with a big smile on his face it makes me feel proud to be a part of this class. These past eight months have been tough. Especially for those of us with children who know its not easy to do our homework when our kids are trying to color in our text books. Or study for a test when the baby is crying. at first I felt a guilty, not having any time to spend my son. But I just kept remembering the banner we have over the stair case on our campus. It says sacrifice is temporary but I will be a college graduate forever. As I stand up here today and all my hard work has paid of I know my children and my family are so proud of me. As I am sure all of you are as proud of all your graduates standing up here today. I would like to thank you all for giving us the ext ra help, support and understanding we have needed to succeed these past eight months. I would like to thank my teacher Mr. S, for making my learning experience at this school a fun and exciting one. Even thought at times it seamed like he thought we were marines instead of student, Never the less he is just a great teacher I would like to take the time to thank my in-laws for letting me use their car to get to class when mine broke down.My other half for being so helpful with the kids when I had homework or a test to study for.

My Favourite Day of the Week
Saturdays have always been special to me. When I lived in Mexico, Saturday was the most hoped for day of the week. I remember that my cousin and I were always wishing for the school week to end and for Saturday to begin. Every Saturday morning would start the same way: my cousin would come to my house to wake me up. Around 10 a.m. we would go out of town to my familyââ¬â¢s ranch. Once at the ranch, we enjoyed a variety of activities. The sun shone down on us, as we lived out our wonderful Saturdays away from the city. We would play soccer, run with the dogs and sometimes hunt birds and lizards with my uncle. There were occasions when we got to help my uncle sow (plant seeds) corn or chiles. Those days were hard, but we still enjoyed them. When we came back from work, we would be rewarded with warm bowls of my grandmaââ¬â¢s pasta and beans, accompanied by handmade tortillas and mugs of chocolate caliente (hot chocolate). After we ate our delicious feast, we would retreat to the lone pine tree behind the house to climb the branches and rest, at last. Usually in the afternoon my uncle would take us to the lake; the water was icy cold but it did not matter since there was nothing comparable to the fun that we had at the lake. There was a garden just a few miles away from the house, and often on Saturdays we would go there. Following our swim in the lake, we would eat luscious fruit from the trees. For two hours or more, we would savor sweet peaches, mangos, juicy oranges and sweet guavas. Then, we would return to the house at sunset. On our way back, my uncle would let us ride the mule, since the journey was long. At last, my family would gather around a bonfire to tell scary stories under the starry, dark sky. All of these meals and excursions were such heavenly funââ¬âit is easy to see why Saturdays in Mexico were the most exciting days of my life. My Saturday experiences have changed since arriving in the United States. Here, there is no longer my cousin to spend the day with me; however, I have my family and a boyfriend, who always tries to make Saturdays a different experience than the rest of the week. Now on Saturday I usually wake up around 9 a.m. and take a peacefully lengthy shower. Then, I sit with my family at the table to eat a delightful breakfast that my mom prepares for us. Sometimes I go with my family to play basketball at the park, where we indulge in meals of carne asada. Once in a while we go to the beach or visit my aunt in Ontario. When we go to Ontario, my mom and I go shopping with my female cousins and my aunt. Then at noon my uncle and father cook for us and we have picnic at the park near my auntââ¬â¢s house. We spend the whole day with them and return home late at night. Also, there are some Saturdays that I spend with my boyfriend. He is not only my boyfriend, he is my best friend, my companion and my comfort. The Saturdays spent with my boyfriend are even more meaningful than those spent in Ontario with my aunt and her family. My boyfriend and I go to the theater to enjoy a movie or just stay home sharing the happiness and misfortunes of the week with each other. No matter what we do, our time together makes my Saturday a special day. I prefer Saturdays over other days of the week because I find harmony within myself. My life is always filled with so many things to do; on every other day I never seem to have a minute of peace. Monday through Friday I dedicate every waking moment to school, work and community issues. On Sundays I volunteer at a museum. Therefore, Saturday is my favorite day of the week because it is wonderfully different from my routine. Additionally, on that day I have the opportunity to spend time with my family and to demonstrate my love and appreciation toward them. There could never be another day of the week like Saturday. Saturdays are exceptional for me; they represent unforgettable memories from my past that I continue to preserve in my heart and mind. I will never forget those amazing weekends with my cousin in Mexico. They are memorable moments that make my Saturdays in the United States (almost) as enjoyable.

Fema s Mission Of Fema - 1234 Words
Introduction Throughout its history, FEMA has had two main missions. First, FEMAââ¬â¢s mission is to enhance the federal government s capacity to deal with and survive foreign attacks. The main types of foreign attacks that FEMA is tasked to respond to relate to terrorist attacks and nuclear war. The second mission of FEMA is to assist state and local authorià ¬ties to respond to man-made and natural disasters that are to enormous for the local and state resources to respond to efficiently. While national security focuses more on civil defense, state and local authorities are more focused on natural disasters such as hurricanes, storms, floods and potential nuclear power accidents. These divergent focuses really presents FEMA with huge challenges since federal security authoritiesââ¬â¢ main objective is quite different from state or local authoritiesââ¬â¢ focus. Considering that FEMA designed the Federal Response Plan, the agency has the challenge of balancing these interests while work ing on its two key missions. Weaknesses and Strengths of FEMA Since its inception, FEMA has dealt with quite many disasters. In all these disasters, at least, peopleââ¬â¢s lives and property have been saved. Public opinion on the performance of FEMA is quite divergent. Joseph Garrison created a fairly accurate interpretation of the perceptions presented in the story of ââ¬Å"That Evening Sun. â⬠He clearly presented his explanations and arguments for why he believed that the story is written more from the boy Quentinââ¬â¢s point of view rather than that of the older Quentin that is presented at the beginning of the story. Reading supporting articles can sometimes be necessary when reading older classic stories. Faulkner is one of those that sometimes require background reading. Garrisons accurate perceptions of the writings make him a highly recommended source to return to. He took the story ââ¬Å"That Evening Sunâ⬠and carefully examined and explained several of the areas in the story. For example he explained the staircase scene from the point of view of Quentin. Garrison explains why Quentin keeps returning to Nancyââ¬â¢s hands. Garrisonââ¬â¢s evaluation of the text helps the reader understand the underlying issues that present themselves throughout the story. This article along with the story ââ¬Å"That Evening Sunâ⬠could be utilized in a classroom setting as a learning tool and would work great for writing a bibliography. Essay on Civil Engineering at a Glance Example For Students
Essay on Civil Engineering at a Glance The career of a civil engineer is diminishing rapidly; however, more buildings and roads are being constructed. Becoming an engineer is not an easy task to complete. Many years of college and post-education training are required to gain the ability to be titled an engineer, especially a civil engineer. Civil engineers draft and design large construction projects including roads, building, airports, water shed lakes, dams, bridges and other various public works systems. Sometimes, civil engineers are asked to safeguard the health of our environment by managing and improving air, land and water quality with air, water and waste treatment systems. Foundation courses for any engineering are in science and mathematics. What does it take to become a civil engineer? Through reading about thought processes, education, and hands on training, and other various topics, you will learn about a civil engineer and what they are required to do. What is the definition of a civil engineer? According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, a civil engineer is defined as an engineer trained in the design and construction of public works. Do you want to become a civil engineer? This is not an easy answered question for most people. The thought process of becoming an engineer is a very long and complicated decision. Many items come to factor when thinking about a career, especially in engineering. Civil Engineers design and supervise large construction projects, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment (U.S. Department of Labor 1). If these projects donââ¬â¢t appeal to any person, this career choice isnââ¬â¢t for you. Overseeing activities of construction personnel at the project site is also a required duty. While working in an office many hours of the day, there will be some hours that will be spent outside within the elements of na ture. Heat, rain, snow, and cold weather conditions are to be expected when dealing with the outdoors supervision of projects. How do you become a civil engineer? Most civil engineers need a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree; however, there are masterââ¬â¢s and doctorate programs available within the engineering field. Graduate degrees are required to be able to promote to management positions. Obtaining these degrees of education requires many years of college and study. Would you want to be in college for or more years? Itââ¬â¢s part of the thought process. Civil Engineering employment is anticipated to increase over the next decade. Do you mind traveling? Often, civil engineers have to travel to job sites to complete supervisory projects. This requires traveling long and short distances. A civil engineer may be away from home for an extended period of time, depending on the job. According to Frederick S. Merritt, the civil engineering career often booms within the coastal regions and within large cities as to where the need for engineers in urban areas is small (Merritt 964-2). Providing technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel is required. This simplifies that a civil engineer will have to work well with other people. Civil engineers apply the principles of science and mathematics to develop economical solutions to technical problems. Their work is the link between scientific findings and the commercial applications that meet society and cus tomer needs. Engineers use computers extensively to produce and analyze designs; to simulate and test how a machine, structure or system operates; to generate specifications for parts; to monitor the quality of products and to control the efficiency of processes (Jackson 349). Education and licensure is the key role to any source of an engineering career. However, with Engineering, education last a lot longer than one would think. Civil Engineers have to obtain a minimum of a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree in civil engineering or one of its specialties. ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) has to approve the program of the school an engineer attends. Programs in civil engineering typically take 4 years to complete and include coursework in mathematics, statistics, engineering mechanics and systems, and fluid dynamics, among other courses depending on the specialty. Some of the courses required include a mix of traditional classroom learning and laboratory and field work (Bagley College of Engineering 27). Ambush journalism EssayIs this the career for me? Becoming a civil engineer is not for everyone. If a person is not a mathematical and scientific person of interest, then this is not the career for them. Hard work, dedication, and strenuous hours are required to become an engineer, even after a person has completed college. According to Mississippi State Universityââ¬â¢s Bagley College of Engineering, becoming a civil engineer is one of the most prestigious career choices of engineering (Web). There are several other key factors about engineering that are too long to discuss. Engineers are curious professionals which is why they are in this field. Civil engineers are well respected people who can point with pride to their accomplishments. They make very good money and there is potential for advancement and growth. Civil engineering is a very rewarding field because they get to see progress even if it comes in small increments. Thought processing, education, training, and getting started are just a few of the requirements to become a civil engineer. I hope that this has concluded beneficial information for great use. Anti Abortion Utilitarian Approach essays
Anti Abortion Utilitarian Approach essays The topic of abortion is a very sensitive subject. Abortion is seriously immoral. I feel that the best way for me to argue against abortion is with Mills Utilitarianism. The utilitarian view of society is we should do what ever is possible to achieve ultimate pleasure with the least amount of pain. Weather abortion is morally right or wrong is very hard to prove. The question I pose to you is , is it morally acceptable to kill a human being. No, it is morally wrong to kill human beings. So why is it ok to kill an unborn baby. Is there more pleasure or pain in the act of abortion? Will the unborn fetus in its life live a mostly happy life? Or will this life be filled with pain and suffering? In every life there will be a certian amount of pain and/or suffering, but the chances of it outweighing happiness is not likely. So taking into Consideration the life of the fetus would suggest that abortion is wrong. But take into consideration the life of the mother. Will the pain and sufferin g of the actual abortion outweigh the pleasure of killing your unborn child? Will you live without regret or guilt of killing that child? Will your life be that much happier without him/her? My next question is, is a fetus a human being? Scientific evidence shows that a fetus is a human being. Human life begins at conception, when the egg is fertilized. According to scientific evidence, once the egg is fertilized every characteristic of a brand new human being is existent, from the color of the eyes and hair to the sex and everything else. Pregnancy is the period for this life to mature, not to become human, it already is. Woman grieve over a miscarriage because of the loss of a baby, a human life. Abortion is the killing of an unborn child. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. In some cases as in rape or incest or when the complications of childbirth could cause the death of the mother or the fetus or even both, in these cases abortion m...

Momentum Essays - Physics, Mechanics, Classical Mechanics, Collision
Momentum Essays - Physics, Mechanics, Classical Mechanics, Collision Momentum Conservation of Momentum Kristin Favreau October 26, 1999 Purpose: To show that momentum is conserved in a closed system by illustrating the conservation of momentum in an elastic collision and an inelastic collision. Method: If momentum is conserved in a closed system, the total momentum of the system before collision should equal the total momentum of the system after the collision. Strobe photos will be used in the calculations that will prove that momentum is conserved. 1.) Elastic collision: A strobe photo will be used that shows a large glider smashing into a smaller glider which is initially at rest. This will cause the smaller glider to move and the large glider will continue to move also. 2.) Inelastic collision: A strobe photo will be used that shows a glider smashing into another glider which is initially at rest. When they collide the two gliders will stick together and will move. -The masses, distances and times will be measured in order to calculate the momentums of the systems before and after collision occurs. Data: V = d/t P = m x v 1.) Elastic collision: When Mass Distance Time Velocity Momentum Glider A Before Collision .31215 kg .009m .6s .015 m/s .00468 Kg m/s Glider B Before Collision .15580 kg 0 m/s 0 Kg m/s Glider A After Collision .31215 kg .005m 1.0s .005 m/s .00156 Kg m/s Glider B After Collision .15580 kg .011m .6s .018 m/s .00280 Kg m/s 2.) Inelastic collision: When Mass Distance Time Velocity Momentum Glider C Before Collision .3105 kg .016m 1.0s .016 m/s .004968 Kg m/s Glider D Before Collision .3000 kg 0 m/s 0 Kg m/s Gliders C+D After Collision .6105 kg .015m 2.0s .008 m/s .004884 Kg m/s Calculations: 1.) Elastic collision: Before After Glider A .00468 Kg m/s .00156 Kg m/s Glider B + 0 Kg m/s +.00280 Kg m/s .00468 Kg m/s .00436 Kg m/s 2.) Inelastic collision: Total momentum before = Total momentum after mv + mv = (m + m ) v (.3105kg x .016 m/s) + 0 = (.3105 kg + .3000 kg) x .008 m/s .0050 Kg m/s = .0049 Kg m/s Conclusion: Through experiments with strobe photos involving elastic and inelastic collisions, I was able to show that momentum is contained within a closed system. My efficiency for the elastic collision was 3.54% and my efficiency for the inelastic collision was 1.01 %. Less than 10 % of the momentum was lost in either collision indicating a good experiment. The lost momentum can be attributed to the transfer from mechanical energy to thermal energy. Sources of Error: 1.) The distances measured in the two strobe photos were estimated. 2.) The measurement of time was an average. % error = difference x 100 sum of all 1.) % error = .00032 x 100 = 3.54 % error .00904 2.) % error = .0001 x 100 = 1.01 % error .0099
